Pregnancy Risk Assessment

Normal Pregnancy

Delivery of a single healthy baby between 37 to 42 weeks of gestation with birth weight 2.5 kg to 4 kg and without any maternal complications is considered a normal pregnancy.

Normal Pregnancy

High Risk Pregnancy

  • Elderly primigravida (30 years or more)
  • Short stature (140 cm or below)
  • Severe anaemia (Hb less than 8 g/dl)
  • Underweight mother (below 40 kg)
  • Pregnancy gap less than 2 years
  • Previous stillbirth or abortions
  • Previous caesarean or instrumental delivery
  • Fertility treatment history
  • Systemic diseases (diabetes, heart disease, TB etc.)
  • Three or more consecutive abortions
  • Rhesus negative blood group

High Risk During Labour

  • Pregnancy induced hypertension
  • Malpresentation (breech, transverse lie etc.)
  • Antepartum haemorrhage
  • Severe anaemia
  • Multiple pregnancy
  • Polyhydramnios / Oligohydramnios
  • Prolonged pregnancy
  • Premature rupture of membranes
  • Fetal distress
  • Early onset labour
  • Cephalopelvic disproportion
