High Risk Pregnancy

NORMAL AND HIGH RISK PREGNANCY

I) NORMAL PREGNANCY:-

Delivery of a single baby in good condition at term between 37 week to 42 week with birth weight of 2.5 kg to 4 kg with no maternal complication.

II) HIGH RISK PREGNANCY:-
  1. Elderly primigravida (30 years and more)/Elderly grand multipara.
  2. Short statured (140 cm and below)
  3. Anaemia (less than 8g/dl)
  4. Underweight (<40kg)
  5. Inter-pregnancy interval of less than 2 years
  6. Previous obstetric history of still birth, intrauterine death, abortions
  7. History of previous caesarean or instrumental delivery.
  8. Treatment of fertility.
  9. Presence of systemic illness like cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, diabetes, tuberculosis, liver disease, convulsion, asthma, HIV, Respiratory tract infection, etc.
  10. History of three or more spontaneous consecutive abortions,
  11. Rhesus negative blood group.
III) HIGH RISK DURING PREGNANCY:-

If any of the following condition appears it has to be labelled as “high risk” and should be in touch with obstetrician regularly.

  1. Pregnancy induced hypertension
  2. Malpresentation eg breech ,transverse lie, shoulder presentation, face presentation, etc
  3. Antepartum haemorrhage
  4. Anaemia (Hb 8g/dl)
  5. Multiple pregnancy
  6. Polyhydramnios and oligohydramnios.
  7. Prolonged pregnancy (14 days after expected date of delivery)
  8. Premature rupture of membranes
  9. Fetal distress
  10. Early onset of labour
  11. Cephalopelvic disproportion
