Emergency Signs In A Newborn :-

  1. Hypothermia:-Temperature less than 96.6 degree F.
  2. No chest movement for respiration ,or bluish discolouration of tongue,lips.
  3. No breathing ,severe respiratory distress with increased respiratory rate more than 60/ min with nasal flaring or chest retraction, grunting ,gasping, head bobbing.
  4. Colour of the baby mottled, pale with or without bluish discolouration of skin, unconscious or seizure.

DANGER SIGNS/PRIORITY SIGNS:-

  • Refusal to feed.
  • Abdominal distention or bile stained vomitus.
  • Severe jaundice.
  • Severe pallor.
  • Bleeding from any site (apart from physiological vaginal bleed in female)
  • Low birth weight ( less than 1800 grams)
  • Large baby (weight more than 4000 grams)
  • Redness around umbilical area with or without pus discharge.
